Character Effects Supervisor Chris Logan and Visual Effects Supervisor Karl Herbst give a very thorough description of how we deal with those "wacky character's" animation in a very stylistic animated movie. This is only one piece of many that goes into making these characters believable while fun to watch. This was a fun movie to work on and even more fun to watch! I barely worked on this (just a few flags here and there) but the trailer looks so awesome, I just had to share! Can't wait to see this one.. Just finished up doing several shots for the latest X-Men movie. My work is featured primarily in the opening scene, which is set in ancient Egypt. This crew was one of the best I've ever worked with at Digital Domain. Life is good!
9 foot tall Colossus was just one of a few characters we worked on this past winter for the new hit Deadpool!
Colossus is a fully digital character, but as you'll learn in the video below, it takes many people to make one digital one. Digital Domain mocap technology is astounding these days. Deadpool was an amazingly fun show to work on -- most probably because the people at Digitial Domain I got to do it with were supercool and the sequences we worked on were so funny. Saw the movie recently and couldn't be prouder -- super funny stuff, super gory and super sexy. But the most important thing - it had a good story with a lotta heart. Like it or not, my new favorite superhero is: Deadpool! Well, we've been at it all summer, bringing sailing ships to life for Starz breakout hit "Black Sails". Most of the best FX aren't in this trailer, you'll just have to watch the season to see the good stuff! Just finished working at Deva Studios on the opening movie for NBA2K15 due out October 7th. Pretty fun working on legendary ballers like Kevin Durant. Here's the result.. I had an absolute blast working on this show! These characters are really funny and the story is quite endearing. Hotel T2 is probably the closest thing to a Tex Avery cartoon I've ever worked on. Go see it!
Here's a really nice VFX breakdown of some of the simulation sails, ropes, flags and other moving items we did at Digital Domain, Playa del Rey and Reliance Mediaworks, Burbank last year for Black Sails, Season 2. It was a lotta work, but I think the results were worth it!
